The story behind the work
Among the great many painters of every era and style whom I admire, Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti has been an enormous inspiration to me. In this painting I wanted to know what it felt like to make one of his celebrated works; in the background and the sky I wanted to wave with my own style.
I can only express my complete admiration for this great painter. A mixture of positive feelings about setting myself large challenges welled up in me. Long live Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti. And I hope that in the very, very distant future, even many years after I am gone, it will also be said: long live Samael Casanova Ortiz.
