The story behind the work
At first this painting, titled “Resilience”, was meant to be a variation on “Victim of Psychology”, but time passed... Like several works in the Spirit collection, this painting was reworked many years after it was begun.
The two figures represent me: the moment when I felt myself in a mental straitjacket, when I was able to free my mind and my essence until I became the person whose butterflies of being in love had gone extinct.
It should be said that the butterflies were already dead during the making of the work. I found them in someone else’s unknown project, ready to be thrown away; I thought they might sit well in my piece, so with great care and patience I managed to rescue their bodies from a fate in the rubbish truck. I think they are more dignified now: they live on as a memory, just like the memories that once tormented me in the most absolute depression. And overcoming all of that turned me into a resilient person.
